About Waikiki Beach and Diamond Head State Monument

Waikiki is located on the south shore of Honolulu it is also best known for its white sandy beaches, swaying palms, shopping, classy hotels, fine dining at the seaside, surfing. Today Waikiki is famous as it attracts a number of tourists from around the world for its world-class hotels and resorts experience on the beaches along with other water sports activities that you can indulge in.

Not too far from the Waikiki lies the Mount Leahi called (Diamond Head) which looks as if it's like a natural backdrop, behind the calm waters of Waikiki. The breathtaking view compliments the Pacific Ocean and its said that once it was used as a US military post for preventing attacks from the outsiders against Honolulu.

By Taxi:

Taxi from Honolulu to Diamond Head State Monument-Take Punchbowl St and S Vineyard Blvd to I-H-1 E-Follow I-H-1 E to 6th Ave. Take exit 25B from I-H-1 E-Continue on 6th Ave to your destination One-Way from $28 to $35 USD

 

Tips

  • While you are in Honolulu Waikiki is a must-see before you leave for families, sunbathers 
  • The temperature here during the daytime is around 80°F (27°C) year-round. But during the night and in spring and winter, it gets cool—so it's advisable to bring an extra layer if you plan to be out past sunset
  • Don’t forget a hat, sunscreen. and sunglasses. And in case you do though, several ABC Stores—a Hawaii retail chain—offer replacements along Kalakaua Avenue
  • There are two tunnels at the top. Hence it is recommended that you bring a flashlight. Although there are lights in the tunnels which work most of the time
  • If you looking for a hike the path is steep, wear comfortable sneakers or hiking boots
  • Wheelchair accessibility is available at the site
  • Children need to be accompanied at all times

Last entrance to hike the trail is at 4:30 p.m. 

The gates would then be locked at 6:00 p.m daily and all visitors must be out of the park by this time
