About Iolani Palace

Iolani Palace was once a home for former Hawaii’s royal family. As you arrive at the Palace you will be self-guided with a tour which will take you around the entire Palace. As you enter the Palace you will be amazed to see how the Palace is preserved right from the extravagant chandeliers to its dramatic staircase which leads to the Grand Hall where the royalty used to sit and have their lunch, dinner et all.

There's so much inside the palace that you can learn and see which will take you back in time with their historic pictures, galleries, art collections which you can find down in the Basement Gallery. And as you come down you will notice there's a Coronation Pavilion in the Palace grounds its truly a state treasure and a must-visit whenever to decide to visit Hawaii.

How to reach

By Bus: 

19, 2, 54, 9, E, and closest stops and stations to your destination are Iolani Palace: S Hotel St + Richards St; S King St + Alakea St; S Hotel St + Alakea St; S King St + Punchbowl St; Punchbowl St + S King St. Fare is Bus: $ 3

By Taxi: 

One-Way from: $ 6 to $ 9 


Tips

  • Please note children under 4 must be held in front by way of an infant/child carrier worn by an adult or safely strapped in a stroller at all times. Strollers are provided by Iolani Palace at no charge, as personal strollers are not permitted inside the Palace
  • Should a child behave in a manner that is disruptive to other visitors, Palace personnel will ask that the child be taken outside
  • There is limited parking on Iolani Palace grounds and nearby streets. Hence it's advisable that you add at least 2 hours to your parking meter to ensure that you have adequate time to walk to and from your car and for your tour. Fees will vary by location. Be aware that street parking may be limited to certain lengths of time and prohibited during morning and afternoon rush hours
  • As an alternative, there is a private parking garage at Alii Place, Entrance to the Alii Place parking garage is on the right side of Alakea Street between King Street and Hotel Street. Alakea is a one-way Mauka (mountain) bound street
  • All public areas of Iolani Palace and Iolani Barracks are wheelchair accessible, which is available on a first-come, first-served basis, free of charge. Upon ticket purchase, please inform the cashier of special requirements
  • There are special services provided for deaf, hard of hearing and blind visitors which can be arranged with prior notice 
  • Once you are in you are given slip-on booties to wear to avoid the floor getting dirty 
  • You are strictly not allowed to eat, drink, gum-chewing, smoke, no cell phone use, photography, or video

Also to note: It is periodically open on Sundays for Kamaaina Sunday. And effective February 1, 2019, Iolani Palace grounds (Iolani Palace State Monument) will be CLOSED daily to the public from 6:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m.

Yes Hour-long guided tours take place every 15 minutes between 9:00 a.m. and 10:00 a.m. on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays and from 9:00 a.m. to 11:15 a.m. on Fridays and Saturdays.
