About Maui Ocean Center

Maui Ocean Center is an Oceanography and aquarium located in the Island of Maui. It was opened in 1988 by Coreal World International which was the largest tropical reef aquarium in the western hemisphere. It is not the biggest aquarium but one of the best aquarium with abundance of marine animals. The aquarium exhibits coral reef habitats, sharks, humpback whales and sea turtles. If you want to explore about Hawaiin's marine environment and local culture the Maui Ocean Center is the right place to visit. The centre was really filled with fun as well as informative with lots of interative exhibitions for kids and for adults as well. This is the place where the kids enjoy very much. They can tough the starfish, sea urchins in the pool and you can find all kind of fishes from the Islands. There were lots of gift shops located outside the aquarium which you can buy and take as your remembrance and you can also buy traditional souvenir's here. The aquarium consists of coffee or smothie bars and a seashore restaurant available for the visitors to sit and get relaxed. Water Filling station was available where you can refill your water bottle. This was the best place for entertainment to visit with family. 

Maui Ocean Center is the house for Hawaii's marine life. Here you will notice that there are animals which are not found elsewhere in the world now this makes it a unique marine environment. You will find visitors from all over the world who come here to discover this aquarium. Where you find animals and marine life like sharks, stingrays, turtles, and thousands of vibrant tropical fish. It's an amazing experience when you come eye to eye with some big sharks around you. Maui Ocean Center will also educate you through a presentation of  its marine life which is quite informative and interactive and the best part is that if you are going with your family the kids will truly love it. Apart from that, there are a couple of interesting activities that you can involve in like the Marine Mammal Discovery Center, Turtle Lagoon, Living Reef exhibits and The Aquarium’s Shark Dive Maui program where you can dive in with the experts along with some sharks, rays, and fish in the Open Ocean Exhibit. And finally, you can try Seascape Ma‘alaea Restaurant which itself is a mesmerizing experience.

From Maui walk about 20 minutes to reach L.Kula Rd from there take bus no 39, and get off at Queen Ka'ahumanu Center from there take bus no.20  and get off at Ma'alaea Harbor Village from there walk about 2minutes to reach Maui Ocean Center

By Taxi/Car: 

Head northeast on Kalawa Pl toward Omaopio Rd - Turn right onto Omaopio Rd - Turn left at the 1st cross street onto HI-37 - Use any lane to turn left onto State Hwy 36- Use the left 2 lanes to turn left onto Airport Rd - Continue onto HI-380 - Use any lane to turn left onto HI-30 S - Reach the Maui Ocean Center Aquarium in just 2 km


Tips

  • Try to start early to avoid the crowd
  • Arriving early will also benefit you to find parking space 
  • Please carry sunshade, hats as the weather is unpredictable it may get windy so carry clothes accordingly 
  • Do not forget to carry sunscreen and enough water
  • You can bring in your stroller with a sunshade if you have a small kids 
  • There are some good restaurants around where you can try fish tacos at Coconuts Fish Cafe
  • There are no electronic, cigarette, or vaping devices allowed, you are requested to keep it outside the park, in compliance with Hawai‘i state law
  • Wheelchairs is available on a first-come, first-served basis at the Park Entrance
  • Outside food or beverage is not allowed at Maui Ocean Center. However, if you have small infants and school groups (with prior approval) and those with special medical needs exceptions can be made
  • Check the event calendar from the attraction official website before visiting the place
  • The place is generally sunny or breezy so pan accordingly
  • Outside food and drinks were not permitted inside the center expect for infants and children
  • Chewing gum is not allowed inside the Ocean center
  • You can book tickets online from which you can save 15% on selected packages
