About Lyon Arboretum and Manoa Falls

Lyon Arboretum is a tropical rain forest situated amidst the Manoa Valley. Lyon Arboretum is a sacred paradise which has over 5,000 cultural and scientific collection of tropical and sub-tropical plants. It has a lot to offer you other than its wide collections of researchers of tropical plants here you will find green parrots, cockatoos, mongooses, and red-capped birds which might just come in your way. Lyon Arboretum is a crucial resource for the University of Hawai’i system with many research opportunities. You will find many visitors who come in here just for research, instruction, and service activities which may require Arboretum collections and resources. Not too far is located the Manoa Falls Trail which is a short hike and the reason it is famous for is one of the most famous films  Jurassic Park and the television show LOST had filming locations here. Isn't it exciting?? It's like a small adventurous park if you are looking for a small action park adventure where you can hike or experience the Manoa Falls under the natural shower

Tips

  • All visitors to the Arboretum must sign in at the Visitor Center
  • Parking is reserved for Arboretum visitors only. All others (including those going to the Manoa Falls trail) will be towed.
  • Pets are not allowed. Service animals must have service permits and be on a leash and in control at all times.
  • Smoking is not allowed on Arboretum grounds. 
  • You are not allowed to take soil, rocks, water, animals, plants, or plant parts from the Arboretum grounds and if need to collect it for research purposes you must receive prior approval by Arboretum administration. 
  • Amateur photographers are welcome, however, any commercial photography or videography needs approval
  • Wear appropriate close-toed footwear 
  • Bring a hat, sunscreen, and rain poncho or jacket if its too sunny, windy or rainy
  • Carry a water bottle so you can stay hydrated  as there are no public water fountains but you can buy it from the Gift Shop 
  • Carry bug spray for mosquitoes and other insects
