About Honolulu Museum of Art

Honolulu Museum of Art is located near downtown Honolulu which has more than 60,000 pieces of Hawaii's largest general fine-arts museum. Come here and you can explore the finest collections of Asian art in the world, not only Asian but it also has some international collection of art which includes Western, European, and Polynesian. 

The ambiance of this Museum makes it look more impressive with open-air ponds and courtyards it is complemented by. The museum is accompanied by Doris Duke Theatre where if one feels like watching a movie you can which plays an impressive range of foreign and independent films, Or if you would like to take a break after browsing the galleries, you are at a great place where you can recharge yourselves in the open-air at  Homa Cafē with an energizing drink at the Coffee Bar or smack a bite.

How to reach

By Bus:

 The bus which will take you to the Honolulu Museum of Art is #2 bus from Kuhio Avenue towards downtown, approximately 20 minutes. Stops in front of the museum. The museum is on these bus lines: 1, 2, 1L, 2L

Tips

  • There are a few important things that you need to remember if you will be at the Honolulu Museum of Art on: 
  • On First Wednesday of every month is free for Hawai‘i residents (with ID) also on July 31c admission is free for Hawai‘i residents (with ID) in honor of La Ho‘iho‘i Ea (Restoration Day)
  • Please be responsible and thoughtful as you are at the museum and please don’t touch the art, don’t climb up on pedestals or platforms
  • You are requested to check all bags, backpacks, shopping bags, parcels, umbrellas, tripods, and any bags exceeding 16 inches in diameter for security reasons 
  • All galleries and facilities are wheelchair accessible, which is available at no extra cost as per availability
  • You are allowed for still photography without flash for personal use in most galleries. Galleries, where photography is not allowed, are marked, No tripods allowed. Videotaping is permitted in the courtyards and grounds of the museum only. No photographs or videotapes may be reproduced, distributed, or sold without written permission from the Museum
  • You are allowed sketching in galleries (pencil only, no ink or paint) with sketchbooks no larger than 8 1/2 x 11 inches (21.6 x 27.9 cm). No easels or sketching while sitting on the floor is permitted. If galleries are crowded, guards may ask visitors to stop sketching or writing
  • Baby strollers are permitted at all times
  • You are not allowed outside food and drinks, including in the courtyards and the Doris Duke Theatre
  • Smoking is not permitted anywhere in the museum
  • There are special services for Visitors with disabilities which can be pre-checked at the Visitor Information Associate, security officer, or museum volunteer who will be happy to help. All services are free with museum admission unless otherwise noted
  • Elevators are located throughout the museum
