Yu Garden is also known as Yuyuan Garden or the Garden of Happiness. It was built 400 years ago during the Ming Dynasty by a government officer Pan Yunduan. The meaning of "Yu" is pleasing and satisfying. The garden was built for Pan's parents to spend time in thier old age. Initially, the garden was small in size, but was built under the influence of classical architecture. The garden houses extremely beautiful sculptures and a busy Yuyuan Bazaar. Yu Garden has a reputation as "The Crown of beauty in Southeast China". It is also listed under the National Relic Protection unit.
The garden has a unique design with decorative halls, twinkling pools, zigzag bridges, pavilions, pagodas, archways, and rockeries. Those who want to explore the realms of ancient China, Yu Garden is the best place for them. The garden consists of six layouts, including Sansui Hall, Wanhua Chamber, Dianchun Hall, Huijing Hall, Yuhua Hall, and an Inner garden. Each area is separated by a dragon wall. You can walk through Jiu Qu Bridge a.k.a Nine-turn Bridge, because Chinese believe that number nine is auspicious and walking across a bridge brings good luck.
