About Shanghai

Shanghai is the largest populated city in China and the second most populous city in the world. The actual meaning of Shanghai is "Upon the Sea" as it is located on the estuary of the Yangtze River Delta. The city gets its name Shanghai from the "Song Dynasty". Earlier, during the "Mid-Tang Dynasty", the city was named as "Huating".  Shanghai is also known as the "Pearl of the Orient" and "Paris of the East". The city is the economic center of China and one of the most globalized places. Shanghai is the geographical center for transportation– including river traffic, sea shipping, railway, aviation, and also highways.  The Yangtze Delta is fertile and provides the best tillable land for people living there. It is not surprising that the city has been a prosperous place for hundreds of years. Along with modernization, the traditional values remain the core of the city.

You will discover skyscrapers rising to more than 600 meters in height, while you may be intrigued to explore the traditional houses in the city. When you take the ferry from Huangpujiang, you can explore the east bank, which is both modern and traditional in terms of fashion, lifestyle, and culture. Shanghai has some of the best tourist attractions within the country. Famous personalities like Bernand Shaw, Albert Einstein, and Tagore have visited the city to explore the beauty, architecture, and culture. You can explore Chinese tradition, culture and architecture still preserved in its original form in the city.
