At the end of the age-old Grand Canal waterway, stands Hangzhou. The capital of Zhejiang Province, it has been designated by the government as a "Historic and Cultural City". Hangzhou is a major city in Southern China that has a fast and efficient transport network. It has convenient high-speed rail and highway connection with popular tourist cities in this area, like Shanghai, Suzhou and Nanjing.

Buses: Hangzhou's well established bus system is priced very reasonably with most buses charging around CNY 1 to CNY 3 per person. It would be optimal to get a Transportation Smart Card to avail discounts on buses as well most modes of transportation in the city.
Taxis: As the most convenient mode of transportation in Hangzhou, the flag-down fare for a taxi is CNY 11 for the first 3 kms (2 mi). It costs CNY 2.5 per kilometer (0.6 mi) for the following 4-10 km (2.5-6 mi). For the distance of over 10 km (6 mi), the charge is CNY 3.75 per kilometer. It costs for every 4 minutes waiting. The standard cab fare from Xiaoshan Airport to downtown Hangzhou is about CNY 100-150.
Metro: There are three options to purchase a metro ticket.
1. Single Journey Ticket: It is only valid on the day of issue and is recyclable. One person, one card.
2. Tourist Metro Pass: These passes are available at the Customer Service Center of all metro stations. They are classified into two. The first is the One Day Pass which costs CNY 15 and passengers can use it for unlimited rides on the metro within consecutive 24 hours from the first use. The second is the Three Day Pass, costing CNY 40, which can can be used for unlimited rides on the metro within consecutive 72 hours from the first use.
3. Passengers can also pay with regular IC card, and Hangzhou Multifunction Card (Hang Zhou Tong).
