About Li River Cruise

As one of China’s most popular tours, the Li River has a whole different world to offer. Located in Guangxi Province, this stunning river offers boat cruise tours while revealing aspects of life that, I bet you, many of us seem to have forgotten. Clear waters, children, and fishermen waving back while catching a ride on a bamboo raft, rice fields workers nodding and timidly smiling, breathtaking views of a world that jealously holds incomparable shows of natural beauty and everlasting purity, is what you will witness throughout your visit at the Li River.

One of China's top photography destinations, the Li River is the heart of all tourism in Guilin. The winding river stretching 52 km from Zhujiang to Yangshuo covers several small towns and spans the entire city making it one of the most important landmarks. Dotted with rolling hills, steep cliffs and fantastic caves, it has the ideal backdrop for leisurely boat rides and bamboo rafting and gives you a front-row seat to some of the most beautiful attractions Guilin has to offer, including the Seven-Star Park, Ox Gorge, Pagoda Hill, Duxu Ancient Town and the Forest of Odd Shaped Peaks. Most of the tours tend to pause on the banks of the river for a traditional lunch the attraction is a feast for the eyes and the stomach.

Tips

  • It's advisable you spend one night in Guilin as the cruise departs early in the morning
  • You can also opt for bamboo rafting along the Yulong River to enjoy the beautiful scenery
  • Tourists can hire a wide variety of boats to explore the Li River, from small rafts to bigger boats
  • The best time to visit is from April through October. Late March through late April will yield a foggy, more poetic scene and if you prefer sunny, clear days the best time is from September through October. However, avoid October 1-7 as it is a Chinese holiday period
  • Go early in the day. There are so many vessels on the water and you are most definitely never alone
  • Stake your place for good photography and stay there
  • Take a pair of binoculars
  • Even if it's not that cold outside, make sure to be well-covered
  • Hire a good bike. Vendors will attempt to hire all sorts of unsuitable, unworthy bicycles
  • Wear a rain poncho if you want to avoid water splashes. Having an umbrella to cover you from water is also good
