Shanghai Wild Animal Park is located in the Pudong district of Shanghai and it is the first National grade zoo in China. It was built by Shanghai Municipal People's government and state forestry. The Zoo consists of more than 200 different types of animals from all over the world which include rare animal species and the animals under the special protection of China. Such animals include the giant panda, golden monkey, tiger, Asian elephant, which are all specially protected animals. The park also houses other animals like zebra, rhino, giraffe, antelope, cheetah, bears, elephants, dogs, sheep, lion, monkeys, and exotic birds, etc.
The park includes a performance zone, bird zone, and an animal zone. The park is divided into a walking area and one which is accessible by bus. You cannot have wild animals as your pet at home, but you can foster them by donating money for their caregiving. You can foster rare animals and the money donated will be used to protect the animal. There are few other areas where some dangerous animals are kept and you can only see those animals if you take the tour bus. Local restaurants such as Shanghai restaurant and hotels have their outlets in the park and shops are also available from where you can buy souvenirs.
