About Shanghai Ocean Aquarium

Shanghai Ocean Aquarium is located in Pudong district of Shanghai and one of the largest man-made aquariums in the world and was designed by Advanced Aquarium Technologies. The building consists of a basement, three floors, and eight exhibition zones. The aquarium is well presented with exhibitions that are really worth your time and money. Kids really enjoy visiting the aquarium. The exhibition in the aquarium consists of more than 300 types of species and 15,000 water creatures and rare fishes such as jellyfish, moonfish, poison dart frogs, sea dragons,  emperor penguins, and common perch. You can see some rare and native endangered species of China at the China zone within the aquarium.

The Shanghai Ocean Aquarium also contains four underwater tunnels, which are the largest submarine tunnels in the world. If you want to see the fishes being fed then you can visit the aquarium during the afternoon, as it is feeding time. You can also visit the basement of the aquarium where you can have your meal and do some shopping. A few shops are available where you can buy gifts and souvenirs as well. You can enjoy this place with your children.

  • You can visit different exhibition zones such as China zone, South America zone, Australia zone, Africa zone, Southeast zone, Coldwater zone, Sea and shore, deep ocean zone and also visit a few special exhibitions.
  • You can purchase gifts and souvenirs in the basement where a food court is also present.

How to reach

Taxi: The Aquarium is located 5.6 km from the city and can be reached within 16 minutes.

Bus: Walk 10 minutes to reach people's square then Take Subway line 2, Guanglan Road to reach Lujiazui and walk about 10 minutes to reach the Aquarium.

Tips

  • Try not to bang on the glass.
  • Try to avoid weekend visits.
  •  Visiting in the afternoon or mid day is better as you can enjoy more during the feeding time.
  • Come prepared for a long outing
  • Good place for children to learn about sea animals and ecosystem
