About Palace of Peace and Reconciliation

The Palace of Peace and Reconciliation is a 77-meter-high pyramid in Nur-Sultan. It was conceived as a permanent venue for the Congress and a global center for religious understanding,  the promotion of faith and human equality and the abstinence of violence. It is also translated as the Pyramid of Peace and Accord. Opened in late 2006 it is a symbol of friendship, unity, and peace in Kazakhstan. This beautiful glass and steel pyramid was designed by Norman Foster. From the outside the building appears as a square based pyramid, the lower portions are clad in pale granite while the upper portions feature stained glass featuring doves designed by Brian Clarke. Steel is used because of the extreme environment and depicts an exciting architectural story and houses a 1,500-seat opera house, educational facilities, and a national center for Kazakhstan’s various ethnic and geographical groups.

The Palace also includes an Atrium Banquet Hall, the Besyk Hall, exhibition halls, the Kulanshi galleries, the press center, the ethnic cultural centers of Astana, the International Center for Cultures and Religions and the Academy of Turkic World. All of them are notable for fabulous decoration and the largest conference hall is called 'Cheops Atrium' while the smaller one is the 'Cradle', the place which hosted the famous World Religions Conference.
The building’s cupola phosphorescences and is beautifully illuminated at night. There is a photo of 130 pigeons, which symbolize 130 nationalities living in Kazakhstan. This truly is a unique structure and is a real gem of which captures the essence of this beautiful city.

How to reach

The cheapest way to get from Astana to the Palace of Peace and Reconciliation is via the line 10 bus which takes 38 minutes and the bus will arrive at Dom Ministerstv station.

The quickest way is to get a taxi which takes around 10 minutes.

  • The palace is open seven days a week.
  • Excursions are conducted in three languages ​​- Kazakh, Russian and English.
  • Entry is inexpensive and there is a 30 min tour inside.
  • The surrounding park is lovely to walk through.
  • There is a coffee shop on the first floor and a gift shop with some interesting Kazakh gifts.
  • Don't forget to carry your cameras.
  • Carry a water bottle to stay hydrated.
  • Do some research before you go and try less crowded days and times.
  • Do not miss the night-time view of the pyramid.
