About Khan Shatyr

Opened in 2010 on the 70th birthday of President of Kazakhstan Nursultan Nazarbayev. The Khan Shatyr, translated into English 'Royal Marquee' is the most extraordinary building with a total area of 127,000 sq meters and a height along with the spire of 150 meters. The architect of this unique structure is a British architect Norman Foster who is also famous for designing the pyramidal Palace of Peace and Reconciliation another architectural marvels in Astana. The main attraction of Khan Shatyr is the artificial beach with sand specially imported from the Maldives. The Khan-Shatyr is a spire with a special transparent curtain, supported by strained steel lines and is the largest tent in the world. The internal temperature is moderate year-round as a special chemical lining which is a heat-absorbing material helps it to maintain its special microclimate, this feature makes it different from any other shopping mall in the world. Inside the huge structure of Khan Shatyr, there's a drop tower, flume ride, 500m-long monorail and other multiple entertainment options such as a park, a boating river, a minigolf course, a shopping center, and even an indoor beach resort.  Besides all this features the shopping mall has other general facilities like brand shops and boutiques, offices, supermarket, companies’ offices, café, restaurants, playgrounds, family parks, cinema theatres, and Aqua Park. The shopping center even owns many types of food and cuisine.

How to reach

The bus line 10 from Astana Airport to the Khan Shatyr takes around 36 minutes and the estimated price is 1-2USD. Apart from the bus, one can take a taxi which will take around 3-5 USD.

  • Good place for shopping for some unique clothing from local designers.
  • There is an exposition on most of the weekends where one can get some nice dresses with interesting styles.
  • Should wear comfortable shoes.
  • Good place for children as there are lots of entertainment facilities.
  • Parking can be a bit difficult as the spaces are much narrow.
  • Several bus lines stop here.
  • There are several little souvenir shops and all the items cost reasonably.
  • Carry your own water bottle to stay hydrated
  • Don't forget to carry your cameras to capture the stunning views inside the mall
