The Nur-Astana was built in 2005 in honor of President Nazarbayev and the former Emir of Qatar, Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa al-Thani. It is the third largest mosque in Central Asia, located on the left riverbank in the city Astana, Kazakhstan. The mosque's height is 40-meters which symbolizes the age of the Prophet Muhammad when he received the revelations, and the height of the minarets are 63 meters portrays the age of Muhammad when he died. The central dome made of gold can be visualized from a long distance as it shines in the sun. The interior features of the mosque show some geometrical patterns combining blue, white, red, and gold with calligraphic inscriptions. The mosque has a limit of 5,000 worshipers inside and 2,000 outside the mosque. This mosque also has the stone of Ka’aba from Mecca and the holy Quran from Saudi Arabia. The prayer hall is only for men, women can use the upper gallery. There is a garden where one can have a pleasant walk in a relaxing environment.
Buses start between 6 a.m. and 7 a.m. and finish between 10 p.m. and 11 p.m. Single-trip tickets cost 90T; for express routes they cost 150T.
There are special shuttle buses and the departure time is mostly between 10.00-11.00 a.m. and cost the same as on the public bus.
Taxi drivers do not use the meters mostly, so prices can be made negotiable before setting off.
