Seattle Waterfront was built in the 19th Century. The Central Waterfront was once a famous hub of Seattle's maritime activity among the people of Seattle. Since the construction of a container port to its south in the 1960s, the area has increasingly been converted to recreational and retail uses. The major trading locations, the harbour area and the wharf, contributed greatly to Seattle's growth. For the purpose of docking ships, few piers are used. The other piers are being reconstructed in a way to preserve the natural life in and around the piers and to cultivate awareness. Some piers are constructed such a way that they help in understanding the need for conservation of nature. A walk in this area is really refreshing for the mind. For the foodies this is a great place, you can watch the waterfront view having fresh seafood. You will understand why Smith tower has become an icon of Seattle if you observe the stories, figures and moments on your way to the top of the tower.
