About Golden Gate Park

San Francisco's Golden Gate Park is a thing of beauty. This exquisite park is spread over 1,000 acres and is filled with many wonderful attractions. The park's origins lie in San Franciscans' desire to have a park on the lines of New York's Central Park.

Efforts to create one began in the 1870s and, over the course of the next several years, the park slowly expanded with new additions. Some of the highlights of the park include the Japanese Tea Garden, California Academy of Sciences, de Young Museum, and the botanical garden. These attractions have made this enormous "green zone" the fifth most visited park in the US.
