Zoo Miami is the largest, oldest and the only subtropical zoological garden in Florida. Also known as the Miami Dade Zoological Park & Garden, it was initially established in 1948 at Crandon Park, Key Biscayne; however it was later relocated in 1980. The zoo is currently spread across 750 acres at a former Richmond Air Naval station site.
The zoo houses more than 3,000 animals representing 500 different species, amongst which 40 species have been classified as endangered. The zoo also has more than 1,000 species of trees, palms and other plants, and over 100 special exhibits showcasinng a vast flora & fauna. Having accredited by the Association of Zoos and Aquarium, Zoo Miami is one of the most popular zoological gardens in Latin America.
