If the ocean is calling your name, head to the Florida Keys. The Keys are a string of coral cay archipelago (islands) stretching about 120 miles off of the southernmost tip of the state of Florida, and the southernmost point of the continental United States. The Gulf of Mexico is on one side, the Atlantic Ocean on the other. They’re known as the destination for fishing, boating, snorkeling, and scuba diving. Here you can take a tour of a glass-bottom boat, kayak, go swimming with dolphins, or explore the many botanical gardens.
Start at the top in the Everglades with its 1.5- million-acre marshes and mangroves. Put on your snorkeling or diving gear to view the marine life at the John Pennekamp Coral Reef State Park and Molasses Reef under the ocean. Go to the Dagny Johnson Key Largo Hammock Botanical State Park and wander the trails through protected plants and animals. See the African Queen, the boat used in the 1951 movie, located in Key Largo. Watch for the crocodiles and alligators that call the Florida Keys home!
