Everglades National Park protects the landscape that is a significant habitat for numerous rare and endangered species like the Manatee, American crocodile, freshwater sloughs, marl prairies, tropical hammocks, pinelands, cypress, mangrove, coastal lowlands, marine, estuarine and Florida panther.
It is a United States National park and a UNESCO world heritage site in Florida. The 1.5-million-acre wetland lies on the southern tip of the state of Florida. The park is the most significant breeding ground for the tropical wading birds in North America and has the largest mangrove ecosystem in the Western Hemisphere.
Visitors driving north from Florida Keys on U.S. 1 should turn left on Palm Drive (State Road 9336/SW 344th St.) in Florida City and follow the signs to the park
From the Florida Turnpike, get off on exit 25A (from the north) or exit 25 (from the south) take U.S. 41 (Tamiami Trail / SW 8th St.) 25 miles west to Shark Valley
