The Kocatepe Mosque is the largest mosque in Turkey, and one of the largest in the world. The mosque can accommodate up to 24,000 worshipers at a time. Built between 1967 and 1987, the mosque can be seen from almost anywhere in Ankara by its four minarets standing 88m high, and its gorgeous gold-plated dome. It has a massive marble yard in front and a grand facade. The basement of the mosque has a supermarket, which pretty much highlights the priorities of modern Turkey! As you enter the spiritual structure, you will notice the lavish décor around you. There is an enormous spherical chandelier hanging in the middle, and the large area is fully covered with Turkish carpets. At night, you can see the mosque illuminated in white light against the Ankara skyline.
