Claimed to be one of the oldest public zoos in southeastern Europe and the largest and the biggest zoo in Serbia, Belgrade Zoo sprawls across an area of 7 hectares and holds approximately 1,700 animals. More than 150 different wild and exotic species of animals, as well as domestic and indigenous ones, can be found here. The Zoo also is known as Garden of good hope “Vrt Dobre nade” was founded in 1936 and the zoo's architecture is very imitative to the walls of Kalemegdan fortress with brick and rock as main elements. Belgrade zoos comprise very special collection includes the white lions, white tiger, Bornean orangutan, ring-tailed lemur, jaguar, cheetah, serval, spotted hyena, Arctic wolf, fennec fox, meerkat, honey badger, binturong, raccoon, Oriental small-clawed otter, etc.
It is 1.8 km from the city center and takes around 8 minutes to reach by car at a minimum fare of 117 RSD
