Washington Monument is a tribute to George Washington, the first President of the United States Of America. It is the tallest structure in DC, a 555 feet marble tower! You can see 50 flags surrounding the monument, these signify the 50 states of the United Nations.
An elevator will take you up to the top in about 70 seconds, from where you will get a breath-taking view of the White House, Lincoln Memorial, Thomas Jefferson Memorial, and the Capitol. The monument is currently undergoing some repairs and hence is closed for the tourists. It is undergoing modernization and is expected to open soon in August 2019
