Tlos was an important religious center in ancient Lycia. This site is considered to be one of the oldest (as old as 4000 years) and the largest inhabitation of the Lycian Empire. Tlos attracts tourists with its ruined charm of a rocky outcrop rising from atop a raised platform which is covered with rock-cut tombs. This site is nestled within the gigantic Akdaglar Mountains. Once the “brilliant metropolis of the Lycian nation,” today the site is of immense historical value enveloped within the picturesque scenery. A trip to Tlos can be easily combined with that of Saklikent Gorge.
The site includes a shopping arcade beside the athletics track by the side of the large, beautiful pond. There is also an amphitheater that one can see and explore. A more recent addition is a small cafe, restroom, and a gift shop run by the local guide and his family.
