A majestic structure comes into view near the Kremlin. It is the Saint Basil’s Cathedral, a church built to honor the military success of Russia during the first Russian Tsar’s reign, Ivan Vasilyevich, also known as “Ivan the Terrible”. The cathedral was constructed in 1554 and completed in 1561, its appearance reminiscent of a burning red flame, a unique design deeply related to Byzantine tradition that cannot be seen in any other Russian architecture. It is definitely a sight to behold, intimidating and full of colorful towers that seem to glow with life from miles away. It is such an impactful work of artistic architecture that stories claimed the Tsar had the architect blinded after its construction to ensure that no other building could parallel its design. While it is forbidden to touch any objects or any parts of the interior structure, pictures and videos are more than welcome.
One must visit the Cathedral for both of its interior and exterior as its architectural style is unique.
