About Moscow

Moscow has played a pivotal role in Russian History. The city has a lot more to offer than communism. Much of the city had an upheaval and reconstruction after it was taken over by the French. However, it was almost annihilated by a devastating fire and it is fit to say that it has risen from the ashes to become the exhilarating modern city that we see today. Think about Tsars, ornate cathedrals, picture-perfect regal buildings and the 871- year-old capital of Russia comes to mind. A hub of communist power this capital of the erstwhile U.S.S.R. till 1991 continued as Russia's epicentre synonymous with Soviet authority. It embodies the very core of Russia with a sophisticated, visually appealing and vibrant air about it with the likes of the Kremlin, Red Square and Lenin's Mausoleum, Moscow provides a great insight into the old traditional architecture of Europe along with the modern emerging trends and culture. The city has a great cultural heritage with the famous Cathedral of Christ the saviour and famous art museums. The modern atmosphere of the city can be seen with the skyscraper buildings and ultra-modern facilities offered for the tourists. There are multiple options for shopping and gifts to be taken back as memories of the trip.

Do’s

  • Book a hotel keeping in mind its distance from the main city or travel cost will increase.
  • Start your tour by buying a travellers guidebook for the city to have an idea about the famous tourist spots.
  • Travel by city metro as it is safe and very much cost effective.
  • Communicate with the locals for more information and knowledge as they are very helpful.
  • Beware of pickpockets and take care of your wallets and bags.
  • Travel with your identification documents as checking is very strict in Moscow.

Don’ts

  • Leave home without a language guide book as some of the locals are not fluent in foreign languages.
  • Eat western food as it is very expensive.
  • Let the crowds put you off, sometimes events might occur randomly causing a heavy influx of crowds making places difficult to access.
  • Cross the main roads as traffic is fast and there are no pedestrian crossings.

Night Life

The city is crowded and bustling with life in the busy evenings. Each street has lots of vibrant energy with a number of bars and restaurants catering to tourists. With a cosmopolitan vibe, the locals indulge in music and the food options are unlimited. The nightlife in clubs usually starts after 11  p.m and is very crowded during the weekends or on special occasions like national holidays or during Christmas. The clubs are mainly located in the central part of the city and taxis can be used for commuting. Google about the nightlife and you are bombarded with several websites linking you to some unique and out of this world concept pubs and bars. The people in Moscow love their drinks stiff and slightly on the sour side so it's better to ask for ingredients before you go exploring new drinks. Pub hopping is a weekly custom and the locals get dressed in their best and wind down to hard rock music and food.
