About Donskoi Monastery

This ancient, unique looking monastery flanked by eight squares and four circular towers with a red- blood crown is worth a visit.  The old cemetery and the new cemetery where many important Russian historical figures are buried also hold the graves of many noble families from the time of pre-revolutionary Russia. It is the best example of the survival of a fortified monastery. It is a peaceful place and an original example of Russian design resonating with history  and should be on the travel list for its ancient heritage.
