Built between 1573 to 1813 after the Spanish conquest of Tenochtitlan, the cathedral now facilitates conducting masses, confessions, prayers, the blessing of religious objects, baptisms, first communions, and marriages. The Cathedral also holds significant historic and intrinsic value to the culture and legacy of Mexico City. It is the largest and oldest cathedral in Latin America and is also an architectural wonder. The Spanish and Columbian mix style of construction offers a stunning view for visitors and is indeed a treat for history buffs. The sixteen chapels inside the cathedral display numerous relics, religious artifacts and crypts of art that make this place a treasured masterpiece. Other than its religious significance, the Cathedral also symbolizes five-centuries-old Mexican art and architectural glory.
