About Chapultepec Zoo

Established in 1924 by the Mexican Biologist Alfonso L. Herrera, Chapultepec Zoo is situated in Chapultepec Park. The zoo provides habitat to more than 250 species of about 2,000 animals. The highlight of the Zoo is a pair of  Giant Panda gifted by the Chinese government in 1975 and the California condors. The place has a footfall of approx. 5.5 million annual visitors. The featured animals of the zoo include Russian pandas. Being a former Aztec zoo, it is quite popular in terms of animal conservation as several endangered species are protected and bred here. Also known as Parque Zoológico De Chapultepec in Spanish, the zoological park is spread across 33 acres of land and uses Victorian-style caging for animals.
