The Santa Maria Presso San Satiro is a church which lies in the heart of the city and is considered to be an important pilgrimage stop. Sometime around the 9th century, a mausoleum was built, which was later dedicated as San Satiro. The church is comprised of two parts. One is the Shrine of San Satiro, also known as the Chapel of Mercy built in the 19th century. It is positioned outside the tip of the left transept. The other is the proper church which was built during the Renaissance period.
