The museum is situated in the former convent of San Maurizio Maggiore Monastery which was founded in the 8th century. The collection in the museum covers a wide range of statues, coins, and vases. This museum highlights the history of early Milan which was settled over 2,000 years ago. Right next to the Archeological Museum, there is a beautiful Church of St. Maurizio. The Church Of St. Maurizio was a part of the great Monastery Maggiore, the oldest church in Milan, built between the 8th and the 9th century.
