A 17-century ancient temple built to worship the protector of the universe 'The lord Vishu' is Kapaleeswarar Temple, in Chennai city. The temple was created on the lines of the traditional form of Dravidian Architecture. This religious shrine conducts Puja Services as per the scheduled plan of the temple with Kala Santhi (morning), Uchchikala (Mid-day), Sayamkala (Evening) and Ardhajama (Late Night). Adorned with many shrines dedicated to various Gods, the shrines of Kapaleeswarar and Karpagambal are most prominent. The West of the temple is a big tank and both the temple and the tank are surrounded by broad streets on the four sides. The view of the temple and the tank is picturesque. With four yearly festivals and the extensive Arubathimooval festival celebrated during the Tamil month of Panguni is a major attraction for devotees to flock here both from the country and outside India too.
