An exquisitely modern and scientifically upgraded zoological park near the central railway station of Chennai is 'The Arignar Anna Zoological Park'. This largest zoo in South East Asia was set up in the year 1855 and is sprawled over an area of 1260 acres. With fast expanding visitor numbers, the zoological park was relocated to Vandalur. In the last few years, the number of visitors to the zoo year was approximately nearly 8,00,000 per year. The zoo is famed for its exclusive breeding programs aimed in conserving and multiplying the already endangered flora and fauna species. The park gives the glimpse of almost 138 different species to the visitors regularly. Visitors get to see the live habitat of around 2300 animal species existing here. The park creates awareness about the conservation of diminishing animal species and efforts contributed to putting an end to the extinction of the endangered species.
Vandalur is the nearest railway station which is situated 1 km away from the zoological park. You can easily take a cab further and reach the park.
