The single largest mosque in Kabul is the Pul-e Khishti Mosque. It can be seen from afar and is recognized by its signature large blue dome. The mosque itself is located in one of the busiest commercial areas and as a result, during prayer times caters to thousands of people at a time. The mosque has been attacked during the wars and fighting and was partially destroyed. It is one of the mosques that has been completely restored. The restoration of the Pul-e Khishti Mosque was a big deal throughout Kabul as one of their most noticeable mosques was completely restored and stood tall and proud again, with its blue dome towering above all others. The most interesting fact about this mosque though, is that one of the Imams (leader of the mosque) In this mosque was a supposed Englishman, which is a huge deal even today as Islamic religious positions are highly coveted and when given to a foreigner is almost completely unheard of.
