About Babur Tomb

The Tomb of Babur houses the body of the great Mughal Emperor, Babur, who began the Mughal Empire's first step into greatness. The tomb itself is a part of the Bagh-e-Babur, or the gardens of Babur. The tomb itself houses the body of the first emperor, but he is not alone, as many of his relatives were also buried here, like his older sister and his youngest son. The tomb is undoubtedly the most important part of the gardens that it is a part of and the simple reverence and respect it carried throughout history is enough to prove it. Even generations down the line, kings would come to pay their respects to their ancestor who began the expanse of the great Mughal Empire. The beautiful craftsmanship and architecture of the tomb and largely, the gardens span over 500 years in architectural significance, one of the many reasons that this place has also been declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

The tomb in the Gardens Of Babur is one with great historical significance. Built by Shah-Jahan, of the Taj Mahal fame, similarities in style between those two are noticeable. The white marble masterpiece serves as a simple mosque to the garden but soon became one of the most visited places in the gardens. The gardens themselves are one of the most visited places in all of Kabul. The various types of plants grown all around the gardens are a mix of indigenous and exotic varieties which make the gardens look just as Babur wanted, full of life to surround his final resting place. The many different restoration projects taking place all over the gardens are focused on more beautification of the place and trying to make the gardens as aesthetically pleasing as possible. The pavilion and the mosque were both added to breathe life into the gardens and give it purpose and meaning. This attraction continues to be the crown jewel of the Bagh-e-Babur.
