Darul Aman Palace, known by many names, is famous as the palace of the King of Afghanistan. The palace, whose name means 'Safe Haven' was one of the main targets of the war in Kabul. It was bombed extensively and now only a ruin remains for people to visit. The Kabul government had tried to get it recovered earlier but failed due to cost. Now the government, with a lot of help, has finally begun construction and is set to finish the reconstruction by the end of 2019. Even worn-down, the palace still remains to be one of the most beautiful buildings in Kabul, an ode to the German engineer who built and designed this as a show of friendship between Afghanistan and Kabul. The architecture of the building along with war symbolism makes it a very popular tourist attraction, and a sign for the locals to remember the hardships that they have braved through. The Darul Aman Palace is truly the pride of the people there and the vigorous reconstruction of the place only cements their love for it.
