The Eidgah Great Mosque is the second largest mosque in Kabul, but it serves as the chief place of prayer for all the devout Islamic people of not only Kabul but all of Afghanistan. The mosque was built during the time of Babur of the Mughal Empire and has stood the test of time. It remains one of the most widely-known mosques in Kabul. During Eid, the mosque sees gatherings of millions of people from all over Afghanistan and even the world who come to pray here. The mosque is located in one of the wealthier parts of the city and stands opposite to the National Stadium of Kabul. Due to its construction during the Mughal era, the architecture of this place heavily features only Mughal style. After numerous attacks on the mosque and subsequent reconstructions, it has seen some changes in architectural styles, currently giving it a contemporary look between Mughal and Modern Islamic architectures. This grand mosque has not only been used for prayers but for all manner of major events including coronations and religious festivals. The huge grounds here are helpful in maintaining a big crowd, which usually show up whenever the Eidgah Mosque is involved. The locals have strong beliefs in the mosque and the tourists visit it frequently to see the site that can hold millions of devout praying men at the same time. The Eidgah Great Mosque lives up to its name in everything it does.
