Po-i-Kalyan
Po-i-Kalyan is one of the biggest religious complexes in Bukhara. Carrying the standard blue colour on its domes, it was built in 713. One of these complexes were burnt down by Genghis Khan. The minaret that stands at the corner of the mosque escaped the destruction. Rebuilt in 1121, by Kharakhanid ruler Arsnal Khan, it stands as one of the most beautiful religious places of all times. It has nearly 300 domes supported by 200 pillars. You can also visit the massive court hall which makes way to the main prayer hall. A view of a single tree in the inner courtyard surrounded by long alleys of corridors is breathtaking.
Beside Po-i-Kalyan, another complex stands as Mir-i-Arab Madrassah. It was built by Sheikh Abdullah Yamani. He was the spiritual mentor of Ubaidullah Khan and his son Abdul-Abdul Aziz Khan. Ubaidullah khan had earned the highest form of spirituality in Islam and was buried alongside his mentor in the madrassah. In recent times, entry to madrassah is prohibited. But one can admire the beauty of architecture from the exterior of the complex.
