The Great Minaret of Kalon
This 47 m tall tower is the most prominent landmark of Bukhara City. Standing at one corner of Po-i-Kalyan Mosque, Minaret of Kalon was another UNESCO World Heritage Site. This breathtaking column has one of the finest architectures in the history of Bukhara. In broad daylight, you can see fine literature engraved on it. Also known as Minaret of Kalyan, the taller it stands, the more impressive beauty it showcases to its viewers. Bako designed the minaret and was build by Qarakhanid ruler Mohammad Arslan Khan. The purpose of building this minaret was to summon Muslims for prayers. It is easily reachable from the Ark of Bukhara. They used this column to execute prisoners. And your visit at night when all lit up, will surely be one of the most memorable ones in your travel diaries.
