Bolo Houz Mosque- the Emir's Mosque
Bolo Houz Mosque was built in the 17th century. It was built for the prayers of the Emir and their staff. It is the lone preserved mosque in Bukhara that encompasses a multi-column strong base, domed mosque, a minaret and a small pool. Bolo Houz Mosque was built in 1712 in remembrance of the mother of Ashtakhanid ruler Abul Fayud Khan (1711-47). The structure has gained eminence because of its location near Registan Square. Also known as the Forty Pillar mosque, the last Emir of Bukhara Sayid Alim Khan had ordered to build a richly decorated 'ayvan' (terrace) to the mosque's eastern facade. In 1917, a famed local craftsman also built a small minaret. The Emir would take a stride out on Fridays to have a closer acquaintance with his people offering service prayers. The beautifully carved wooden pillars hold up an impressive restored painted ceiling.Even today, people flock to the mosque on Fridays to offer their service prayers to Allah.
