Also known as the Seraglio, the Topkapı Palace in Istanbul, used to be the home and governmental headquarters of the Ottoman sultans during the 15th century. It is said that the Palace took almost six long years to build and its construction began in 1459 on the orders of Mehmed the Conqueror. In 1924, after the end of the Ottaman Empire, the ruling government decided to convert the palace into a museum – and soon enough Topkapi Palace turned into a major tourist attraction. Topkapi has a treasure trove of stories that people simply love to hear again and again. Tales of the sultans’ shenanigans have amused everyone who has visited this resplendent palace.
