Aspendos was an ancient city in Antalya, Turkey, situated 25 miles to its east. The city holds a rich history dating back to 1000 B.C. The Aspendos ruins have an ancient Roman theatre, which was surprisingly found in a remarkable condition during excavations. It dates back to 160 to 180 AD. The magnificent theatre with a height of around 315 ft is an amazing sight. Every year, the theatre hosts an opera and ballet festival to promote art in the region. It can accommodate around 15,000 people at a time. The theatre is in such a good condition that the Aspendos International Opera and Ballet Festival hold annual productions in the theater in the spring and early summer. It's a mystery how such a massive structure was put into place and even preserved in ancient times without today's technical advancements.
