Borj el-Kebir is an ancient fortress built in 15th century near Fatimid Palace and is considered one of the finest specimens of Ottoman military architecture. The fortress was built over the ruins of the city of Griba. In 1903 the site came under the Tunisian authorities who recognized it as a national historic monument and it got transformed into a museum later. The museum has two mausoleums, one is Sidi Saad and other is Ghazi Mustapha.
The site is approximately 112 Km from Houmt Souk. Taxi is the best and most convenient option and it takes about 2 hours
