It was on the 5th of June in the year 1935, that the Tierpark Dählhölzli opened its doors to the public, in the presence of the Federal Council Rudolf Minger. During this time, the zoo was also managed by its first head-veterinary, Paul Badertscher. But the next year, the head-veterinary decided to give his place the next year to a young doctor in zoology named Heini Hediger. He also decided to write a book that recalled what his experience had been like in the park during the war. The book talked about the difficulties that came into being when it came to finding food and material to care for the animals and how the Park Association helped him cope with what was happening in Europe at the time. The third person to manage the park was professor Monika Meyer-Holzapfel who managed it from the year 1943 to 1969. Many new enclosures were built during this time. Eventually, the zoo pedagogy centre was set up which would help children and it is a centre that is still in operation today. The place definitely is a pleasure to witness a wide variety of animals living comfortably in their artificially created natural habitats.
