About Warsaw Uprising Monument

A very evocative monument set up to commemorate the bravery of Polish people rising up against fascism. It bears the greatest testimony to the spirit of the Polish people of Warsaw during their most difficult time. The iconic bronze sculpture celebrates their selfless acts of bravery and heroism which are unmatched in the history of the world. This bronze represents many of the uprising fighters with statues larger than life-size in action scenes - as they well should be. The sculpture is quite descriptive and the detail in the faces is sublime. This is, in fact, a tableau of the insurgents, men, and women, doing their best with makeshift weapons to beat back the German occupiers, it captures the physical movement of the fighters as the sank underground where they traveled and rose back up to fight. At the top of the stairs, on the south side of Krasinski Square, find the soldiers creeping warily through the ruins of streets and buildings. Some feet away, at ground level, more figures climb down manholes into the ground as a priest in robes stands guard. Walk across the street from the monument to see the place where the real soldiers entered the canals to escape the enemy. Realistically set in a sewer it poignantly depicts the horror of the situation. The superb masterpieces in the form of the splendid lifelike figures of this graphic monument manage to communicate not just the terror and destruction of that time, but also the commendable solidarity between the soldiers who were putting everything at stake to save Warsaw.
