Standing proud as the perfect amalgamation of Inca architecture and colonial craftsmanship, Qorikancha is the political and religious temple of the Inca Empire. It is considered as the main seat of Sun God named Inci. In fact, the significance of the temple was to such an extent that people visited it barefooted. This sacred temple was created by the Inca dynasty to worship their Sun God. Later on, it was redecorated with gold sheets to augment its majestic beauty. This temple witnessed the wrath of the Spanish army and was looted by them. The present remains are a symbol of Inca’s cosmology and fierce conquest of the Spanish Army.
Originally called Intikancha or Intiwasi at the time of Incas, it was ruthlessly destroyed by the Spanish in 16th-century war. When the Spanish swayed Qorikancha, the gold was taken away by them as a result of their conquest. It was said that the walls of Qorikancha was covered with the sheets of gold, and the adjacent courtyard has many statues of gold. All of this exemplified the richness of the Inca Empire. The beauty of the ruins of Qorikancha is such that it acts as the perfect background for quality pictures. Besides this, the rustic atmosphere surrounding the temple is simply breath-taking. The entire scene is one that is a sight to behold. This temple was, later, used by Spanish authorities as a base for developing the Church of Santo Domingo. Here, you will experience the beauty of Inca architecture and colonial impact after Inca’s defeat.
