Mohatta Palace Museum is a beautiful architectural marvel that houses many galleries, an ideal place for art lovers and history buffs. A Hindu businessman called Shivratan Chandraratan Mohatta built this palace as his summer home back in 1927. The architect of the palace was a work of Agha Ahmed Hussain. Unfortunately, the owner could not use the home as Pakistan got independence from the British rule and he had to leave for India. The palace was then turned into a museum. Shivratan was originally from Rajasthan and that is the main reason he wanted his summer house to look like a Rajasthani Palace. The palace is pink in color like the palaces of Jodhpur. The building also has a yellow stone which is from Gizri. After Mohatta's departure to India, Fatimah Jinnah acquired palace. Her sister moved into the building after her death. Eventually, the palace was sealed after Shireen's death. The Government of Sindh bought the palace, turned it into a museum and appointed a group of independent trustees who took care of the museum. The museum conducts events and exhibitions regularly. It is the pride of Pakistan and displays artwork in its forty-four galleries.
The museum is 7km from the city center.
