Close to the city center, behind a huge door embellished with a vivid creature wall painting, Karachi Zoo is one of the most established zoos on the subcontinent. It was opened in 1878 and incorporates an assortment of winged animal species alongside lions, elephants, monkeys, panthers, giraffes, tigers and that's only the tip of the iceberg. The patio nurseries themselves are of nearly as much enthusiasm as the creatures and contain a wide scope of plants and trees, some accepted to go back to the sixteenth century. Although the zoo is not properly maintained, it is yet popular among the locals for those who are animal lovers. You can have a close view of the animals as the cages are near. The zoo also has the latest addition of a brown bear in its family. The names given to the animals are very unique. You could read about the animal on the boards outside the cage. The Mughal garden is beautiful and famous for different varieties of roses and other flowers that are exhibited here. The reptile house is very interesting. Newly born hatchlings of Testudines and crocodilians are also exhibited.
The zoo is around 3 km away from the center.
There is an urban bus called Al Rehman that goes every 20 minutes from Jail Road to the Garden costing somewhere around 145 PKR. The zoo is around 9 minutes walk from the Garden.
You could take a direct taxi or Uber from the center. It takes around 6 minutes and costs around 300 PKR.
