The Fort Antoine was initially constructed as a fortress; destroyed during the Second World War. It was rebuilt in 1953 as a theatre and still carries the traces of the original unique architecture. This Theatre 'The Fort Antoine' is the small amphitheater on the Avenue de la Quarantaine in the Monaco-Ville ward of Monaco. Fort Antoine Theatre is used as a marvelous outdoor theatre with a capacity of 350 spectators in tiered seating built in a semi-circle pattern. Especially crowded in summers, the place is an experience in itself. The theatre is free to enter, except when it hosts one of its high-quality performances during the summer season. Pittosporum hedges provide the parapet of the fort. The aggressive nature of its architecture is still there with a bartizan and a pyramid of cannon balls at the center of the theatre.
One can have a lovely view of the sea and Monaco port from here.
It's just 1 km from the city centre. Take bus numbers 1 or 2 in the direction of Monaco Ville and get off at the terminal, Place de la Visitation. It's about a for 4 minutes walk to reach the theatre. The fare would be 2 Euros.
