The church is the mastermind behind the reincarnation of beautiful Monaco city into what it is today. It is also famous for being the burial site of many of the Grimaldi Royal family including Prince Rainier III, and his wife the acclaimed American actress Grace Kellys. It's built with the same stone that was used for the oceanographic museum.
The fabulous architecture of the cathedral is breathtaking, apart from that, one can take note of the wooden retable which is also called the raised altarpiece made by renaissance painter Louis Brea who painted in the early 16th Century. An organ with four keyboards was installed here and is still a great tourist attraction for the church.
The cathedral choir Les Petits Chanteurs de Monaco sings church mass every Sunday at 10 a.m. from September to June. It is a small church perfect for quiet and peaceful prayer time yet a historically significant cathedral. Surely a must visit in your list of tourist places to view in Monaco.
It is 1.3 km far. Take bus numbers 1 or 2 in the direction of Monaco Ville and get off at the terminal, Place de la Visitation. Then a short walk of about 2 minutes to the cathedral. The fare is 2 Euros.
