According to many legends, it was said that seven Franciscan monks were crucified at the site of this monument. Before Stalin had the crosses removed and buried, the monument had stood erect since the 17th century. Then in 1989, the crosses ended up being rebuilt by architect A. Civulkis according to the original plans. Signifying mourning and hope, the crosses are a great symbol to the people of Lithuania. If you are someone who is looking to feast your eyes on an aerial view of the old town of Vilnius, then this is definitely the right spot for it. The pieces of the monument removed by the Soviets can still be found on the far side of the slope on the hill.
